Myanmar Youth Development (UK) Charity

Myanmar Youth Development Charity (mydc.org.uk) are working in partnership with Myanmar Youth Development Institute (mydi.org) in Australia to raise awareness of the social enterprise that is Sanon training restaurant in Bagan, Myanmar.

The Sanon Training Restaurant is operated by mydi  and conducts Sanon as a non-profit social enterprise organisation in Nyaung U, Bagan, Myanmar.

Our core strategic aim is to:

“Train up to 30 students at a time, assist them to gain employment and monitor them for a further two years”

The function of the Project via the Sanon Training Restaurant is to train disadvantaged youth in hospitality and English, find them employment and monitor them for a further two years to assist them integrate into the workplace and have a successful career in the hospitality and tourism industries.

Additionally we provide Leadership training to our Management Team to equip them to turn a business.

Pre Covid , 60 students have successfully completed the 12 month training and gained employment. 

Working in conjunction with Burmese social workers, accountants, restaurant manager, chefs, trainers, English teachers, volunteers and supporters we are succeeding to help to create lives and build futures for disadvantaged and underpriviledged youths in Myanmar.

Volunteer Program

Sanon training restaurant would not have reached the success it has without the support of the volunteers that have helped us since 2015. Australian volunteer programme (AVP) have been instrumental in supporting Sanon with a number of volunteer English teachers. They have contributed to the teaching of the written and oral English language skills to our students during their year long training

Charity Fund

mydc.org.uk has been specifically created to generate funds in supporting Sanon training restaurant. Up to March 2020 Sanon training restaurant generated 85% of its income with 15% being donated via donations at the restaurant and via Sanon website. 

For the first time we have had to actively ask for donations to enable us to support our students, their families and our staff who are all currently furloughed. 

Please support us in whatever way you can to enable us to go forward creating lives and building futures for disadvantaged youths in Myanmar. 

What We Do

The simple purpose of Myanmar Youth Development Charity  & Myanmar Youth Development Institute is to.

Provide  an opportunity for disadvantaged and underprivileged Youths in Myanmar within the hospitality industry, via Sanon training restaurant .

We aim to create lives and build futures for disadvantaged Myanmar youths. 

Following careful selection and recruitment students are provided with a one year training course in either front of house or food preparation along with English Language tuition. They are provided with accomodation in our student house and a monthly allowance.

On completion of their training course they are assisted in finding a job and supported for a further two years post training via our student alumni and supported by our social worker.

Up until September 2019 we have created

  • 1 restaurant
  • 60 students
  • 45 alumni

Myanmar Youth Development Institute

Developed by five entrepreneurial and philanthropic Australia and UK business men Mick, Jon, Eddie, Richard and Trevor.

With one simple aim-

To provide opportunities for disadvantaged and underprivileged youths in Myanmar within the hospitality industry.

Each has a wealth of experience spanning areas within the fields of food, hospitality, marketing, education & training, finance industry in Australia. They are utilising their skills, knowledge and expertise to support Myanmar youth today.

Together they established the social enterprise that is Sanon training restaurant in 2015.

Myanmar Youth Development Charity

Jacqui and Keith have created Myanmar Youth Development Charity at the request of Jon, Eddie, Richard and Trevor to support the Social Enterprise that is Sanon training restaurtant.  We are delighted to be part of this unique and rewarding experience.

Keith has extensive skills and experience in the financial sector across both public, private and international sectors. Jacqui is a retired senior lecturer/ nurse and ran a number of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across a number of Universities in the North West of England

Myanmar is  also Jacqui’s maternal ancestral home where her great great grandparents started their lives and she feels it’s time to give back to a country that gave so much to her family in the past.

Congratulations to Sanon class of 2019 !

Here is our amazing restaurant manager Lim with some of our happy smiley Myanmar youths who graduated in November 2019.  They had gone to create their own futures thanks to the beneficiaries, supporters and volunteers of Sanon training restaurant.

This is what we do and it’s for these youths that we do it. Helping to change lives and build futures for disadvantaged and underpriveledged youths.

Sanon training restaurant since its conception has generated 85% of its income via restaurant revenue with 15% of the required income obtained from online and in-house donations.

Since the Covid -19 pandemic the restaurant is closed, staff are furloughed and students training suspended until we can reopen.

For the first time in its history Sanon Training restaurant is having to rely on donations to help support us to support our staff, students and their families.
